Jacqui McCoy (Geia)
We wish to honour the memory of the tireless work of the late Jacqui McCoy (Geia), who devoted much of her life to assisting disadvantaged artists from all backgrounds, but particularly Indigenous Australian artists. Jacqui was an integral committee member from the inception of The JB Seed Fund and was always enforcing the need for emerging artists to be nurtured. She was instrumental in developing a way of operating which would keep The JB Seed accessible to start-up artists and arts workers. Thanks Jacqui!

"Culture is an imperative part of any society. From great societies in history, it is the cultural figures and their work that we remember and learn from, not their business leaders. Unfortunately most modern societies don't recognise this, and very few resources are put into developing contemporary culture. I am delighted to support the JB Seed, and tip my hat to John and Danielle for their gift to young artists, especially for the opportunities created for remote and indigenous artists for whom it is much harder to have their voices heard."

"The JB Seed Management Workshop is the most inspiring event on the music industry calendar. Well, it would be if it was actually ON the calendar. I'm very proud to participate in, and to support, this wonderful initiative"”

"Being involved in the JB Seed is one of the most rewarding things I do each year, and I am thrilled to participate as a panellist on the Management workshop and as a financial contributor. It’s great to see funding going directly into the hands of artists and aspiring managers who deserve it, and who are well supported by ‘The Seed’ as they make effective in-roads into the music industry. I look forward to being further inspired by this process in 2008"

"I believe 'The JB Seed' has enough scope to offer assistance to the more traditional art forms, but also to the more cutting edge/fringe ideas out there. I look forward to being able to support progressive, contemporary and innovative projects. 'The JB Seed' is a chance for me to extend a helping hand, to encourage, support and contribute to this nations vast, dynamic and unique arts community."

"We are delighted to support The JB Seed, particularly the Social Activism through the Arts program. When we were struggling young activists we were always grateful for the financial and moral support of others, including many from the music industry such as Midnight Oil. It is such an honor be able to now give back and support young creative spirits with a passion for making the world a better place. Thank you to JB Seed for giving us this opportunity!"”

"It seems like lots of us spend lots of time these days talking about how things should be different. However, few of us consistently DO enough to actually help change things. John and Danielle are among the few who actually back up their words with deeds. The time and energy they devote to the JB Seed program sets a great example for all the rest of us who sometimes need some help in shaking off the dreaded compassion fatigue."”

"As an active investor in many areas of the arts around Australia I see our culture as unique and strong, so I would like us to be immersed, totally surrounded and celebrating our cultural roots and visions as much as possible. The JB Seed is an invaluable asset for the fusion of investment with remote and emerging artists around Australia. It's important that new voices get into the music industry rather than be overwhelmed by it's power, and I see The JB Seed as a very real tool to make this happen"

I am thrilled to be involved in the JB Seed project, as a contributor to the funding of these important programs, and more importantly, as a panelist on the Management workshop in 2006. We (The Cat Empire) believe that contributing back to the industry is imperative to building a sustainable, dynamic Australian music industry. There is every reason why new people will reach new levels of success, with fresh approaches and creative ideas, not to forget huge talent. I am looking forward to meeting and sharing my experiences of band management with the attendees of the Management workshop, and I congratulate John Butler and team on this initiative, which truly helps musicians and other inspired people to take their first steps into their musical futures.

The Cat Empire - www.thecatempire.com
One of the things we identified a while ago as a band was that we wanted to contribute back to the industry which has supported us in our evolution as a band. Fostering new talent is important to the future of Australian music. There seem to be a lot of grants out there that no one we know has ever succeeded at obtaining, despite their incredible talents! The JB Seed gives a genuine support base (not only financial, but through providing insight, knowledge and mentorship) to people who want to take their first steps. There should be more programs like this. We are proud to contribute to The JB Seed, and hope that large things grow from it!

Why did I get involved in the JB SEED management workshop ?
1) Because I loved the initiative - its genuine , inspirational .It has the potential to transform the business if only a small percentage of the group progress as a result of what they can glean, and if they go on to succeed with growing their artists' career/s , thus preserving the longevity of their clients and their income source.
2) Too many industry types lament the lack of mid-range and major artists touring this wide land of ours regularly but not enough of those same people want to invest and help grow the small bands with potential into sustainable headliners.
3) I make a living out of building artists live careers as a booking agent and promoter and the touring /concert business has been good to me. I want to give something back and am happy to assist this project and the successful applicants / managers in growing the OZ music business in general. That benefits everyone I reckon.

Simon Moor - Sony/ATV Publishing
"It is always good to give back and personally for me the key is finding the best options to do this. When I heard about John Butlers initiative JB Seed I knew straight away that I wouldn't be wasting my timing instead, I see it as an opportunity to help artists and those starting out in the industry to achieve their goals which with the current rate of change are revolutionary."

I have been privileged to work with John Butler as his publicist for many years now. I hold him and his team in the highest esteem and had no hesitation in offering my services and expertise to the JB Seed Grants Program. In 2006, The JB Seed offers an incredible opportunity for artists to gain one on one and workshop experiences with well regarded industry players and I congratulate John and the team for having the vision to not only commence the program in the first instance, but to keep developing it along the way. The generosity of this program is second to none and exceptionally beneficial to those who need direction and funds to help them start out or continue on their journey.
